College Audition Prep

TCMTT prides itself in providing a program that demystifies the college audition process. Since 2020, our coaching clients have been accepted into programs that include Michigan, Baldwin-Wallace, BoCo, CCM, NYU, Viterbo, Columbia, Ball State, Otterbein, Bellmont, Millikin, The Hart School, Point Park, University of the Arts, and Pace. This program offers a tailored approach that will leave both the students and their support team (hi, parents/guardians!) feeling informed, supported, and confident throughout the audition season.

In order to get the best results, we recommend that students interested in applying for performing arts programs begin their formal preparation during the spring of their junior year of high school. You can certainly start later than that, but please note that the amount of work that needs to be completed is extensive, and we do not accept any coaching clients after August 1st of each year in order to meet all of the fall deadlines. Additionally, because of the value that we put on in-person coaching, we only accept clients that are within driving distance of the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro area.

The Pieces

Consultations

The consults can be done virtually or in-person, and are attended by a lead from our coaching staff, the student, and the parents/guardians. Materials provided during the consults include a database of information on hundreds of performing arts schools, best practices for a successful audition season, resume templates, a checklist of all the essentials, and homework from each meeting that will help build a springboard for your college goals. Following each consult, you will receive an emailed itinerary of what we covered for reference.

During each of the three 90-minute consults, we will explore the creation of your list of schools, college finances, understanding your strengths and challenges as a performer, and building a roadmap for meeting all of the various deadlines for applications, prescreens, auditions, callbacks, Unifieds, and results. We will also break down the calling cards of the actor - the resume, headshot, wardrobe and repertoire book, making sure that each of these pieces represent the essence of the actor. Finally, we will work through sustainable practice habits, stress management, and making final decisions about your next step in your theatrical journey.

Repertoire Selection

The team at TCMTT has access to hundreds of scores and scripts, and a successful history of providing exciting and personalized repertoire choices for college auditions. The coaching team will present options for all of the categories needed for the various college programs, and the student will have the opportunity to explore the options before making final choices. Once final choices are made, we will do a 90-minute coaching on the foundations of score and monologue prep so we can start building good technique right away.

PreScreen Filming

We will schedule two to three sessions to capture the material for your prescreen auditions. This includes professional backdrops, lighting, sound, piano accompaniment, and real-time feedback from our coaching team. You can film your material on your own device, or we can film it for you and upload the material to a private dropbox. For the dance portion of prescreens, we can rent a studio to complete that element of the package.

A La Carte Coaching

These additional coachings can be used for any of the following options: General Check-In, College Essay Guidance, Dance Instruction, Acting/Monologue Instruction, Vocal Technique Instruction, Vocal Coaching Instruction, Stress Management, or individualized work based on your needs.

Constant Contact

This element gives the student and their parents text and email support throughout the audition process. Sometimes you need a clarification on an audition requirement, or you want an opinion on a shirt for a headshot, or maybe it’s just to chat about the nerves that pop up surrounding this process. For any of it, and all of it, we’re here for you.

This course is designed specifically for the high school juniors, seniors, and gap year students who are highly motivated and focused on pursuing higher-ed training in musical theater and acting. PreScreen materials are due to schools a full 11 months in advance of the start of a college program, so based on that timeline, the ideal time to begin in this course is sometime during the spring of their junior year of high school.
